 With current MX and Offroad forks a lot of compression damping is required; to create better comfort suspension tuners concentrate on changing the check valve setting. Check valve settings are a compromise between “enough comfort” v's “enough damping”. Cone Valve forks utilize a Cone Valve system in place of the traditional shim type Check Valve set up. 
The Benefits of using a Cone Valve as the Check Valve:
• WP Cone Valve can always open further which reduces harshness
• More comfort when using harder set-ups
• No shims are used preventing any loss of damping from bent shims* 
(*note pistons and shims are still utilized for Rebound control and in the C/A Compression)
• No sealing surface so minimum drop of pressure after valve opens
• Compression and Rebound clicker adjustments are adjustable from the outside
